East Dallas Christian Church

In 1903, a small group of Disciples of Christ gathered in East Dallas. They dreamt of a new church. This dream blossomed into the East Dallas Christian Church. The church’s first home was a simple frame building at Victor and Peak Streets. Four years later, this building journeyed a short distance to Junius and Peak Streets. This is where East Dallas Christian Church still stands today. The church has seen three buildings over the years. First, the original frame tabernacle. Then, a brick structure dedicated in 1912. Finally, the current sanctuary opened its doors in 1925. A five-story educational building now accompanies it. The sanctuary’s beauty lies in its dark, intricately carved wood. The stained-glass windows bathe the space in vibrant light during services. East Dallas Christian Church isn’t just a building. It’s a living testament to faith, resilience, and community. It welcomes all who seek spiritual growth and connection. The church’s core beliefs center on Jesus as the Christ. The Bible, particularly the New Testament, guides their faith and life. They emphasize living their faith, not just speaking it. Equality is paramount at East Dallas Christian Church. They believe everyone is equal in God’s eyes. No one can judge another’s worthiness of God’s love. Their practices reflect these beliefs. Baptism by immersion follows a confession of faith. They also accept baptisms from other Christian communities. A weekly Lord’s Supper is open to all. Leadership roles welcome both men and women equally. The church strives to remove barriers between God and creation. This applies to worship, leadership, marriage, and all church activities.
