Hidden within the grounds of an old monastery Drummohr Camping and Glamping Site awaits. Nestled near Musselburgh this 5-star campsite offers a unique blend of history and modern comfort.

Drummohr’s story begins long before caravans and glamping pods. It started life within the walls of Drummohr House. This elegant red sandstone building was erected in the 18th century by Hew Dalrymple a lawyer and judge. He hosted lavish summer parties there. The house replaced an earlier structure destroyed by the Jacobites in the Battle of Prestonpans in 1745.

Lord Drummore as Dalrymple became known purchased the Westpans estate and renamed it Drummohr House. He was a prominent figure during the Scottish Enlightenment. The name itself is derived from the Gaelic “druim mór” meaning “big ridge”. While no such ridge exists nearby the name reflects the hilly landscape of the area.

The grounds eventually became a caravan park in 1981. The original monastery walls a testament to Drummohr’s past still stand today. The old stables are now home to Vision Mechanics. This group creates augmented reality shows. This adds a modern twist to the site’s historical significance.

Today Drummohr offers a range of accommodation. From traditional tent pitches to luxurious glamping pods and holiday lodges with hot tubs there’s something for everyone. The campsite also boasts excellent amenities. These include a shop a playground and a dog walk. Its location makes it ideal for exploring both Edinburgh and the stunning East Lothian coastline.

Yet Drummohr itself offers a tranquil escape. You can enjoy the peace of the old monastery grounds. You can also visit the sandy beaches and golf courses of East Lothian.
