Across the facade of this building, dreams take flight. This is Drømmegavlen, the Dream Wall. It’s more than just a mural. It’s a canvas woven with the hopes and aspirations of the people living within these walls. Drømmegavlen showcases 117 dreams, transforming this ordinary gable wall into Denmark’s largest poem. Morten Søndergaard, the poet and artist behind Drømmegavlen, envisioned a work of art that resonated with the residents. He wanted them to feel a sense of ownership. He collected their dreams, big and small, creating a unique tapestry of human desires. The dreams are etched into aluminum plates, mounted a short distance from the wall. This allows light to play across the surface, creating an ever-changing display of shadows and reflections. The Drømmegavlen changes throughout the day. In daylight, the sun casts dynamic shadows, making the text dance and shift. At night, a discreet LED illumination brings the dreams to life, each word glowing softly against the wall. This duality creates two distinct experiences. By day, the wall appears almost mosaic-like. You have to get close to decipher the individual dreams. By night, the words shine brightly, creating a beacon of hope and a sense of welcome. The Drømmegavlen is more than just an artwork. It’s a mirror reflecting the community’s soul in 2015. It’s a time capsule preserving their dreams, some of which may have already come true. It’s a testament to the power of art to connect us to a place and to each other. Look closely.
