The original Baptist church building met a dramatic end in 1911. On the very eve of its planned relocation, a powerful windstorm tore the unsecured structure apart. This devastating loss could have shattered the small congregation. But in a heartwarming display of unity, the local Methodist church opened its doors. The two congregations shared the Methodist church building for an incredible eighty years. Methodist services took place on the first and third Sundays of each month. Baptist services filled the second and fourth Sundays. If a month had a fifth Sunday, the two congregations alternated. This unusual arrangement speaks volumes about the spirit of community in Driftwood. It demonstrates the shared faith that brought people together in times of need. Eventually, the growing congregations outgrew the small shared space. Driftwood Baptist Church built its own building. It stands as a testament to the resilience and enduring faith of its members.
