“Gridlock,” someone groans. That’s a word often associated with the Dora Bridge. This bridge is more than just concrete and steel. It’s a vital artery connecting Beirut to Northern Lebanon.

The Dora Bridge is located in the Dora suburb. Dora itself sits north-east of Beirut in the Matn District. Mount Lebanon Governorate oversees it. This area is a mix of commercial and residential zones. The Bourj Hammoud municipality administers Dora.

Dora has a rich history. During the Lebanese Civil War, the Lebanese Forces controlled Dora. A major fire erupted at a Dora fuel depot in April 1989. The explosion of a liquid gas container was heard 40 km away. It reached as far as Sidon.

Dora is a diverse suburb. While mainly Christian, Lebanese of other faiths also live here. Foreign laborers reside in Dora too. Egyptians, Iraqis, and Sri Lankans find affordable rents here.

Economically, Dora thrives. Many companies and factories are located here. The Dora Commercial Centre is a large mixed-use space. City Mall is one of Lebanon’s biggest malls. It once housed a Giant hypermarket. Now, it’s home to TSC Mega. Cinema City is also here. It has nine screens and 1,789 seats. They surround a sky-lit atrium.

The Dora Transport Hub is very important for the city. Since the Civil War, Dora has served as an informal transport hub. People travel to this area to find work. Many Syrian workers arrive seeking manual labor. They hope to support their families.

The Karantina-Dora Highway experienced heavy traffic in 2012. A fault was found in the Dora Bridge. The Bourj Hammoud Municipality quickly notified authorities. They sought prompt repairs. The Dora Bridge is essential for travel.

The suburb also has important institutions. Hôpital Saint Joseph des Soeurs de la Croix is in Dora. It was founded in 1952 by the Venerable Père Jacques.

Dora also has numerous churches. One is the Church of Saint Joseph. Another is the Christian Endeavor Young Adults Association of the Armenian Evangelical Emmanuel Church.

Dora is a major transport hub. Buses, minibuses, and service taxis serve destinations north of Beirut. The Dora Bridge facilitates this connectivity.

Today, the Dora Bridge stands as a testament. It reflects resilience. It connects communities. It facilitates commerce. It bears the weight of daily life. The Dora Bridge is more than just a structure. It is a symbol of Lebanon’s past and present. It is a vital link to its future.
