Dreamed of owning a vast estate in 19th-century Marseille? Domaine de la Roserie offers a glimpse into that era. This estate is located in Marseille’s 14th arrondissement. We are standing before a place steeped in history.

Domaine de la Roserie was created in 1884. J.B. Caillol designed it for Rose Boyer. Boyer wanted a beautiful estate with space for her horses. The domaine became a cherished property.

Initially, in 1791, the 7.5-hectare property featured a pine forest. There were also clearings and a small bastidon. Rose Boyer’s vision transformed it. She established an equestrian center.

For years, Domaine de la Roserie was a cultural hub. It hosted many events and gatherings. Its beauty and charm drew people in. They enjoyed the estate’s ambiance.

However, the domaine faced an uncertain future in 1971. It was acquired to build an access road to the quarries of Sainte-Marthe. This project never materialized. The domaine fell into disrepair.

But the story does not end there. In 1993, Sylvie and Jean-Philippe Rapin revived the estate. They established Les Écuries de la Roserie. It became a center for horse breeding and care. The Rapins breathed new life into the forgotten domaine.

Today, Domaine de la Roserie includes several features. There are two quarries and a round pen. Boxes and paddocks with shelters dot the landscape. A farrier provides essential services.

The French Ministry of Culture recognized its value. They inscribed the Domaine de la Roserie as a monument historique on June 12, 1991. This designation protects the bastide. It also protects its interior décor. The designation includes the farm, park, and even the entrance gate.

Domaine de la Roserie stands as a testament to time. It reflects changing fortunes and enduring beauty. Its history includes both cultural vibrancy and periods of neglect. Rose Boyer’s initial vision remains alive. The Rapin family renewed the site as a place for equestrian pursuits. The Domaine de la Roserie connects us to Marseille’s past. It provides a place to reflect on heritage.
