How refreshing it is to stand here at Dom Dom Saddle Picnic Ground! Nestled amidst the towering trees, this place is a testament to the rich history of the region. Dom Dom Saddle Picnic Ground sits along the historic Black Spur Drive, once a vital timber route. It’s hard to imagine now, looking at these peaceful woods, that the Central Highlands were heavily logged for over 150 years! The timber, mostly used for paper and cardboard, fueled industries but took a toll on the land. The once-mighty Mountain Ash forests, which dominate the landscape here at Dom Dom Saddle, were particularly impacted, leaving behind mostly timber suitable only for chipping. Today, this area stands as a reminder of the importance of conservation. The Dom Dom Saddle Picnic Ground, with its picnic tables and network of walking trails, invites us to appreciate the beauty that remains.
