Built in 1505 by Yeniçeri Ağası Mehmet Sait İbrahim Efendi, a Janissary Master, its story is intertwined with Istanbul’s rich past. Dizdariye Cami has witnessed centuries of change. It has been repaired and renovated throughout the years, notably in 1898 under Sultan Abdulhamid II. The mosque itself is a blend of architectural styles. Its square design, measuring 8.75 by 8.75 meters, is constructed from rough-faced stones. A single dome rests atop a twelve-sided rim. The dome’s spandrels are trompe, while the lassels showcase a Baroque influence. Inside, the minbar, crafted from wood, is a newer addition. The mosque’s single minaret, accessible from within, features a beautiful balcony adorned with stalactites. Dizdariye Cami stands as a testament to the enduring legacy of Ottoman architecture.
