Dixon Elementary School

Have you ever wondered about the students who walked these halls decades ago? Dixon Elementary School, a public K-8 school in Chicago, has been educating children since 1929. The school, named after the Chicago alderman and businessman Arthur Dixon, is located in Chatham, a vibrant community on the South Side. In the past, Dixon Elementary was an extraordinary place. It held a special program sponsored by the Dixon-Eagle Community Bank where students simulated the operation of a bank to learn financial skills. The school also held business simulation programs and planned to open a community garden to inspire community engagement. The school’s innovative curriculum was celebrated in a documentary, “The Curators of Dixon School,” that explored the profound impact of art on the students.
