Nestled in Mandaluyong City, the Archdiocesan Shrine of the Divine Mercy beckons us. This isn’t your typical centuries-old church. The Archdiocesan Shrine of the Divine Mercy is relatively young. Established in 1995, it was declared an Archdiocesan Shrine just a year later, on June 12, 1996. It serves as the heart of Divine Mercy devotion within the Archdiocese of Manila. The first thing you’ll notice is the unique facade of the Divine Mercy Chapel. It’s a simple design, yet unlike any other. The main church is located on the upper level. The ground floor houses the adoration chapel and a columbarium. Two angel statues flank the main entrance. Inside the Archdiocesan Shrine of the Divine Mercy, you’ll find a striking 10-foot-high original painting of Jesus the Divine Mercy. This masterpiece is a reproduction of an Adolf Hyla painting, recreated by the Polish artist Leslaw Ojack. To the left, a bone relic of Saint Faustina Kowalska reminds us of her pivotal role in spreading the Divine Mercy message. Outside, stained glass windows depict the image of Divine Mercy. A small fountain offers a place to light votive candles. Pilgrims to the Archdiocesan Shrine of the Divine Mercy can engage in various activities. These include praying the Chaplet of the Divine Mercy (copies are provided). You can visit Saint Faustina’s reliquary to pray for sinners. You can also offer prayers for the souls in the columbarium. The Divine Mercy Chapel’s story is one of modern devotion. It stands as a testament to the enduring power of faith in a bustling city.
