The Discovery United Methodist Church stands proudly in Chanhassen, a beacon of faith and community. It’s an attractive brick building, not gigantic, but large enough to be welcoming. In its cozy sanctuary, the scent of incense and candles mingles with the murmur of prayer.
The church’s history stretches back to 1988, when Reverend Paul Bosshardt, motivated by his father’s vision, started a United Methodist congregation in Chaska. For five years, they met in the Commons Area of Chaska Middle School. Discovering the need for a permanent home, they broke ground in 1993 on a new building in Chaska. However, their growth was so rapid that they quickly outgrew the building.
In a serendipitous turn of events, they found a suitable new home in Chanhassen at the former Family of Christ Lutheran Church. In 2002, they held their first service in this new space, starting a unique two-campus ministry. Eventually, they consolidated in Chanhassen, leaving their south campus in Chaska behind. Now, Discovery United Methodist continues to be a vital part of the community, serving its members and reaching out to those in need.
