Around 6000 BC hunters and gatherers already set up camp in Dingelsdorf. This is proven by finds of arrowheads and flint tools. Dingelsdorf a district of Konstanz is located in the northeast of the city. It’s one of Konstanz’s 15 districts. Dingelsdorf is also a municipality in the sense of the Baden-Württemberg Municipal Code. It has a local council and a local administration.

In the Neolithic period around 4000-2400 BC farmers settled the region. They were part of the pile-dwellers. This is documented by finds of charred grain pottery spindles and stone axes. Dendrochronology dated an oak pile from the pile dwellings of Klausenhorn to around 3826 BC. You can visit these finds in the pile-dwelling exhibition in the Dingelsdorf town hall.

The first documented mention of the village was in 947 as Thingoltesdorf. King Otto I confirmed donations made by his ancestors to the Reichenau monastery. In 1272 the village was transferred by the Lords of Langenstein to the Teutonic Order commandery of Mainau. After the transfer to Baden in 1805 it was assigned to the Konstanz office.

Dingelsdorf boasts cultural highlights. The parish church of St Nikolaus is late Gothic. It was baroqueized around 1740. The tower is supported inside by a free-standing pillar. The Heiligkreuzkapelle in the Oberdorf district was built in 1747 by Johann Caspar Bagnato. It’s considered the ‘little sister’ of the castle church on Mainau.

Dingelsdorf’s coat of arms is quite unique. It shows a black paw cross on a silver background. A blue heart shield is superimposed. Inside are three golden balls stacked on top of each other.

Today Dingelsdorf thrives. It’s a charming village. It combines history with modern amenities. The local council and administration work hard to improve the lives of its residents. They handle various tasks from building permits to local events. The village spirit is strong here. People work together to maintain the beauty of Dingelsdorf and its surroundings. This makes Dingelsdorf a truly special place. It’s a place worth exploring. A place where history meets modern life. A perfect blend of old and new.
