Doesn’t the thought of art in three dimensions intrigue you? That’s exactly what Dimension Gallery offers. It’s Austin’s unique space dedicated to sculpture and 3D art.

Dimension Gallery began in December 2015. Moya Khabele and sculptor Colin McIntyre founded it. They wanted to inspire dimension in East Austin’s rising art scene. The gallery stands out as a nonprofit. It focuses specifically on three-dimensional works.

Dimension Gallery debuted with “Birth: Rebirth, Elemental Origins.” The exhibit revealed artists crafting with diverse materials. They used metal, paper, clay, wood, and found objects. Visitors witnessed the creative process unfold.

Big Medium sponsored Dimension Gallery. The gallery is located in an industrial warehouse on Springdale Road. This area transformed into a commercial hub. Austin Eastciders, Ground Floor Theatre, and others joined the neighborhood. The gallery features a covered outdoor space with seating. Inside, you’ll find high ceilings and vintage lighting. Brick walls add character. Don’t miss the gift shop. It sells art objects, prints, and jewelry by local artists.

McIntyre noted rising rents were pushing artists out of East Austin. Dimension Gallery offers a hybrid model. It combines a traditional gallery with a nonprofit. This model is unique in East Austin.

Dimension Gallery sits near the Canopy studio complex. It helps grow East Austin’s arts district. Khabele and McIntyre aimed to exhibit art and empower artists. They sought to fund the creation of their work. Sculpture often involves intensive studio practices.

Starting in April 2016, Dimension Gallery rotated eight local artists. Each artist had a three-week solo show. These shows ran throughout the 2016 to 2017 season. Khabele sought artists with refined talent. Their aesthetics were contemporary, imaginative, and timeless.

In 2019, Dimension Gallery opened a new sculpture garden installation. It coincided with International Sculpture Day. The outdoor sculpture program became a fan favorite. Visitors came during gallery exhibitions and the East Austin Studio Tour.

The sculpture garden moved across the street to a green space at 980 Springdale Rd. It was formerly in Dimension’s parking lot named “The Paved Garden.” Dimension Gallery continues to display sculptures inside.

Dimension Gallery helps local artists access city funding. The gallery’s curatorial vision focuses on process-oriented work. This work carries strong conceptual content.

You can find industrial metal shapes at Dimension Gallery. Wild colorful block structures enhance its appeal. Parking might be tricky on weekends. The sculpture park itself is usually not very busy.

So, next time you’re seeking art that pops, remember Dimension Gallery. It’s where Austin’s 3D art scene comes to life.
