“Unterhaching” shouts a colorful welcome. This isn’t just any greeting. It’s an invitation to explore the vibrant memories painted on the Die Jahnschule im Wandel der Zeit Graffiti.

The Die Jahnschule im Wandel der Zeit Graffiti stands as a colorful tribute to a school lost to time. The original Jahnschule, built in 1930, met its end in 1987. But its spirit lives on through this art.

Markus Ronge, a facade artist from Potsdam, recreated the Jahnschule on a transformer station. The Bayernwerk AG commissioned this project. It transformed a functional structure into a vibrant piece of local history. Ronge’s work brings the past to life.

Look closely. You will see scenes from the school’s history. Students from different generations populate the walls. They are depicted in the clothing of their time. Even their parents join them.

Local historian Günter Staudter provided the artistic references. He dug into his archives. He found old views of the school from 1930 until its demolition. Staudter’s contribution ensured the accuracy of the depiction. He even humorously lamented the rough plaster.

The Die Jahnschule im Wandel der Zeit Graffiti has become a source of local pride. The community embraces this artistic endeavor. One driver even stopped to give a thumbs-up.

This isn’t the first time Unterhaching has used art to memorialize its past. Ronge previously transformed a transformer station into a replica of the Straßmayerhof. This commemorated the demolished landmark. These projects demonstrate a commitment to preserving local heritage.

The success of the Straßmayerhof project paved the way for this one. The town noted a decrease in vandalism after the first project. Encouraged by this, they approved the Jahnschule tribute. Mayor Wolfgang Panzer, familiar with the old school, supported the idea. The walmdach roof of the transformer station was similar to that of the Jahnschule.

The four large clocks are now in the Unterhaching Local History Museum. These could not be included in the artwork.

The Die Jahnschule im Wandel der Zeit Graffiti stands as a testament to the power of art. It transforms ordinary spaces into extraordinary places of remembrance. This explosion of color ensures that the Jahnschule is not forgotten.
