Thirty years ago, the Département Génie Thermique et Energie began its journey in a rather unusual way. There wasn’t even a dedicated building yet! The first students were scattered between a test room, and the premises of GEII and Mesures Physiques. Can you imagine starting your studies with such a nomadic existence? The Département Génie Thermique et Energie has come a long way since then. In February 1994, the department finally got its own building. Students even helped assemble the tables and lab equipment. It was a true hands-on experience from the start. Over 2800 students have passed through the Département Génie Thermique et Energie. The training has evolved with educational reforms, adding professional licenses like MEER and GMIE, and a focus on work-study programs. The department originally offered the DUT (Diplôme Universitaire de Technologie) in Thermal and Energy Engineering. In 2021, it transformed into the Bachelor Universitaire de Technologie, a three-year degree. This degree now focuses on “Professions of Energy Transition and Efficiency”. André Baltz, the department head in 2004, wrote in the guestbook, “Our greatest satisfaction is having participated in the training of numerous students in the field of energy and the environment.” This sentiment continues to drive the Département Génie Thermique et Energie today. The department offers two specialization paths within the BUT MT2E program: OPTIM and EXPLOIT. OPTIM focuses on energy optimization for buildings and industry. EXPLOIT focuses on operating and maintaining energy systems. The department has celebrated its 30th anniversary in June 2024. They look forward to the next 30 years, continuing to innovate and train the next generation of energy professionals.
