The Déli Evangélikus Egyházkerület encompasses a wide geographical area. It covers parts of southern Hungary, including Tolna, Baranya, Bács-Kiskun, Csongrád-Csanád, and Békés counties. It also includes the Lutheran congregations on the Pest side of Budapest. This wide reach reflects the historical spread of Lutheranism in Hungary. The Déli Evangélikus Egyházkerület is one of three church districts in the Magyarországi Evangélikus Egyház (Evangelical-Lutheran Church of Hungary). It is headquartered in Budapest, underscoring the city’s historical importance for the Lutheran community. The Déli Evangélikus Egyházkerület experienced significant changes in 2000. The Nyugati (Dunántúli) Egyházkerület was re-established. This resulted in a reduction of the Déli Evangélikus Egyházkerület’s territory as some congregations were transferred.
