What if I told you that right here at Del Valle High School, there’s a legacy of resilience and growth, a story interwoven with the very fabric of this community? Del Valle High School isn’t just a building. It’s a testament to the spirit of Del Valle. Established in 1956 as Del Valle Junior-Senior High School, it initially served grades seven through ten. The following year, eleventh grade was added, along with the school’s mascot and colors, and then twelfth grade joined the roster, completing the high school experience. The campus even boasted a dedicated “Cardinal field”. Over time, Del Valle High School evolved alongside its community. As neighboring school districts merged into what became the Del Valle Independent School District, the need for a larger, more modern facility grew. The construction of Austin-Bergstrom International Airport also prompted a relocation. In 2000, Del Valle High School found its current home at 5201 Ross Road. The growth didn’t stop there. In 2007, a bond issue paved the way for a new ninth-grade academy, aptly named the Freshman Academy, connected to the high school. This academy isn’t just a wing; it’s a dedicated space to support incoming freshmen, offering everything from summer orientation programs to academic teaming and celebratory events. The Go Center, a hub of information and guidance for college and career choices, further exemplifies Del Valle High School’s dedication to its students’ futures. Del Valle High School also understands the importance of personalized attention. With a student-teacher ratio of approximately 16.5 to 1, students have access to the support they need. Del Valle High School is more than just academics; it’s a vibrant hub where students connect, grow, and prepare for their futures. In 2023, two exceptional students, Milagros Ramirez and Nathaniel James, both graduates of the Early College High School program at Del Valle, achieved the top spots in their graduating class as valedictorian and salutatorian. They not only received their high school diplomas but also earned associate’s degrees through Austin Community College, demonstrating the opportunities available at Del Valle High School. Del Valle High School’s motto, “Whatever It Takes,” reflects the commitment of its staff and the aspirations of its students. It is a place where history is made, one graduating class at a time.
