De La Salle College has a rich history dating back to its foundation in 1912. It began with three Irish brothers. They were Br Dunstan Drumm, Br Leopold Loughran and Br Jerome Foley. They embarked on a long sea voyage from a bleak northern winter. They arrived in Melbourne on 4 February 1912. Settling into a house owned by St Joseph’s Parish they began teaching 54 boys the very next day in the parish hall.
Kinnoull Campus plays a vital role in the college’s story. In 1953, a second property named Kinnoull was purchased nearby. It has seen expansion and growth each decade. Today, De La Salle College comprises over 1000 students. There are 150 staff divided between three campuses. These are Tiverton Campus, Kinnoull which is the senior campus, and Holy Eucharist which is the Year 9 Campus.
The Kinnoull Campus became the Senior School for Years 11 and 12 in 1984. This campus is home to approximately 430 students in Years 10 to 12. De La Salle College Kinnoull Campus is adjacent to Malvern Cricket Ground and Malvern Library.
The Old Collegians’ building opened on the Kinnoull campus in 2004. That year marked the first time Year 10 classes moved to Kinnoull. De La Salle College offers multiple pathways. These include VCE, VET and VCAL.
De La Salle College Kinnoull Campus provides facilities that support a well-rounded education. These include a chapel. Also included are the Saint Miguel lecture theatre and an amphitheater. There is also a library, an oval and a cafeteria style canteen.
In 2022, De La Salle College announced it was joining Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools. The De La Salle Brothers transitioned from their ownership role. The college continues to grow and prosper under the Lasallian charism.
De La Salle College has a proud sporting history as a member of the Associated Catholic Colleges. The college is known for its experienced football squads. They have won the Senior football competition 52 times since its entry in 1948.
