Amidst the flurry of Copenhagen Airport, a remarkable sculpture captures the eye. De Fire Vinde, the Four Winds, stands as a testament to artistic vision and the spirit of travel. This captivating artwork, created by Henrik Starcke in 1960, depicts the four winds: east, west, north, and south. Four stylized figures, crafted from copper, stainless steel, and enamel, reach out towards the cardinal directions. De Fire Vinde was installed at Copenhagen Airport in 1964. It served as a symbol for the airport, coinciding with the construction of Terminal 2. Originally placed directly in front of the terminal, the sculpture has been relocated multiple times due to airport expansions. It was even stored away from 1991 to 1999 during renovations. Today, De Fire Vinde resides near Parking House P4, across from Terminal 2. Its latest move in September 2016, placed it near the Kiss & Fly area. De Fire Vinde has achieved a certain fame through appearances in the Olsen-banden films, marking the gang’s arrival at the airport. It also served as a celebratory point for graduating students from Tårnby Gymnasium, who danced around the sculpture until around 2014. De Fire Vinde is more than just a static display.
