Let’s journey back in time. Long before European settlers arrived, this area was home to the Dakota people. Their village, Kaposia, thrived below these bluffs. They performed sacred burial rites on the cliffs above. Indian Mounds Park still preserves some of these ancient burial sites. These mounds are a reminder of the area’s earliest inhabitants.
In the 1840s, Dayton’s Bluff began its transformation. It became a suburban residential area. Lyman Dayton built his home here in the 1850s. That’s how the area got its name. The streets were laid out parallel to the Mississippi River. This gives the neighborhood a unique feel.
