The Davis Building is more than just a structure. It’s a piece of Dallas history. It originally housed the Republic National Bank. The Davis Building was the bank’s headquarters from 1926 to 1954. When it was built in 1926, it was Dallas’s tallest building.
Tim Headington purchased this historic high-rise in 2017. Now, the Davis Building is undergoing a significant renovation. The price tag is around $45 million. Mycon Construction is in charge. They plan to complete the work in about 15 months.
The Davis Building stands twenty stories high. In 2003, it was converted into apartments. These apartments feature a loft style. There were originally 183 loft-style apartments. The renovation will create 215 luxury rental units. The building also features retail space.
The Davis Building has over 52000 square feet of retail space. You can find restaurants, cleaners, and even a day spa inside. Imagine the blend of old and new. The Davis Building combines 1920s architecture with modern living. Original terrazzo flooring and exposed ductwork add character. Ceilings soar 12 to 20 feet high.
Hamilton Properties made their first mark in Dallas with the Davis Building. They saw potential in downtown’s historic buildings. They observed downtown Denver’s successful revitalization. They believed Dallas was ready for a similar transformation. At that time, downtown Dallas had few residents. After-hours activity was scarce. The Davis Building, with its classic revival design, was waiting for a new chapter.
An adjacent parking garage was also acquired. The combined properties became a mixed-use complex. It included loft apartments, parking spaces, and retail. The Davis Building connected to the Dallas tunnel system. Hamilton Properties shifted the focus to street-level activity. Retail uses were brought up to energize the street. This was a turning point for downtown’s revitalization.
In 2011, the building owners decided to upgrade the exterior lighting. They installed an energy-efficient LED lighting system. The goal was to highlight the building’s architecture. It also supported downtown Dallas’s renewal.
The Davis Building aimed to create a vibrant display. The new lighting would draw traffic and entertain residents. It was intended to generate excitement in the city. The Davis Building stands as a testament to Dallas’s past and present. It represents a blend of history, luxury, and urban renewal.
