Dauh Puri Kangin

In 1979, the village of Dauh Puri embarked on a transformative journey. This journey led to the birth of Dauh Puri Kangin. Dauh Puri, now known as Kelurahan Dauh Puri, was divided. This division resulted in one kelurahan and four distinct villages. These villages included Dauh Puri Kangin, Dauh Puri Kaja, Dauh Puri Kauh, and Dauh Puri Kelod. Dauh Puri Kangin started as a “Desa Persiapan” or preparatory village. It transitioned to a definitive village in 1982. This official status was granted by the Governor of Bali on June 1, 1982, as documented in Decree Number 57 of 1982. Dauh Puri Kangin is nestled in the heart of Denpasar Barat, within the bustling city of Denpasar, Bali, Indonesia. This urban village occupies a modest area of 0.59 square kilometers. As of 2010, Dauh Puri Kangin was home to 3,597 residents and 1,369 households. The population grew to 5,929 by 2016, comprising 2,982 men and 2,947 women. This demographic shift resulted in a sex ratio of 101. Interestingly, Dauh Puri Kangin lacks agricultural land like rice paddies or fields, setting it apart from more rural villages in Bali. Its boundaries are defined by neighboring areas. To the north, Dauh Puri Kangin borders Dauh Puri Kaja along Jalan Gajah Mada. To the east lies Kelurahan Dangin Puri, marked by Jalan Kapten Sujana. The southern boundary is Kelurahan Dauh Puri, delineated by the Jelih Lambih River. Finally, to the west, the Badung River separates Dauh Puri Kangin from Kelurahan Pemecutan. The administrative history of Dauh Puri Kangin is also intriguing. I Ketut Sudara was appointed the first village head, or perbekel, in 1982, operating from an office in Banjar Titih Tengah. The first village head election took place in 1985. The village office has had a few relocations over the years. It moved from the Mayor’s office to Pasar Badung in 1994, and finally settled at its current location on Jalan Diponegoro Gang IV No. 3 in 2000. Dauh Puri Kangin’s vision focuses on fostering a self-reliant community. This is done by promoting a creative economy grounded in local wisdom.
