Could this unassuming town, Darley, have inspired a name across the globe? Darley is a residential suburb just north of Bacchus Marsh. It lies about 50 km west of Melbourne. You might be surprised to know that its name is believed to be drawn from Darley in Derbyshire, England. The tranquil Lerderderg River winds its way through Darley. Back in the 1860s, a quarry operated near where the river meets Goodmans Creek. But Darley wasn’t just about stone. The 1880s saw the establishment of a firebrick factory, later known as Darley Refractories in Grey Street. During World War II, Darley played a crucial role. It housed an Army training camp with a capacity of 4000 personnel. Today, a military camp plaque on Camerons Road stands as a reminder of that era.
Kororoit Creek
Is this where the river meets the sea? This is Kororoit Creek. It flows right here through Melbourne’s western suburbs
