First, picture a simple bridge. Dapuqiao. That’s our focus today. Dapuqiao Sub-district in Shanghai. It is more than just a name. It is a place with a story etched in its streets.

Dapuqiao was originally an ancient bridge. It stood in Zhao Jia Bang. That’s at the intersection of Xujiahui Road and Ruijing 2nd Road. The bridge was first noted in the Shanghai County Annals. This was during the Tongzhi period of the Qing Dynasty.

Now, let’s jump forward in time. In 1992, Dapuqiao began to transform. The Xiesan block saw the first land leasing project. What was once a shanty town became a modern area. It now has both commercial and residential spaces.

Today, Dapuqiao covers 1.59 square kilometers in Huangpu District. There are 29 traffic roads here. The entrances and exits of Lupu Bridge run through Dapuqiao. Subway Line 9 and the North-south Viaduct also cross its corners. This creates a three-dimensional traffic network. It goes underground, overground and across the surface.

Within Dapuqiao, there are 17 community committees. These oversee 66 residential areas. Fifty-two of these are commercial housing areas. Fourteen are old public houses. Dapuqiao also provides important community services. There is a Community Affairs Service Center. Also, there is a Community Cultural Activity Center. You can find a Community Life Service Center here. The Community Health Service Center ensures residents’ well-being.

For recreation and leisure, Dapuqiao offers much. There are 16 commercial buildings, mainly for business. The Dapu business district is home to the ASE Center Plaza. It stands as the largest single mall in downtown Shanghai.

Creativity thrives in Dapuqiao too. “Tianzifang” is a unique spot. It blends creative industries, tourist attractions and residential areas. “Park 2 Space” is Shanghai’s first service outsourcing industrial park.

Dapuqiao also prioritizes safety. The community promotes “safety, health and harmony”. They aim to prevent injuries. They also want to reduce risks for all residents. This is especially important for the elderly and children.

The Shanghai Museum of Public Security is near Dapuqiao Station. It displays the history of public security in Shanghai since 1854. The museum features weapons and records of criminal cases.

The Liuli China Museum is another attraction. Its walls are made of 12000 unique liuli bricks. Inside, you can see elegant colored glass art. The museum displays both antique and contemporary pieces.

Dapuqiao’s metro station on Line 9 is always busy. The area around Dapuqiao Station has high traffic. The SML Center and Tianzifang attract many visitors. So next time you are in Shanghai, remember Dapuqiao. This is an ancient bridge turned into a dynamic district. It combines history, commerce and community. It is a place where the past meets the present.
