What began in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Grayson on July 17 1938? It was the start of Daniel Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church. Reverend Thomas L Daniel organized it in Phoenix Illinois.

Imagine services held in the Graysons’ home. This lasted about five weeks. Then the Community Club House became their meeting place. Dr Silas Samuels the presiding Elder held the first Quarterly Conference there.

With divine help the membership of Daniel Chapel increased. This enabled them to purchase a building at 15110 9th Avenue. Now Daniel Chapel AME Zion Church stands as a beacon of faith. It enriches individuals and families through Christ’s liberating gospel.

Daniel Chapel warmly welcomes everyone to experience God’s love word and power. The church strengthens the spiritual physical emotional intellectual and environmental needs of all. They apply the lessons within Christ’s Gospel.

“I’ve Got This With Jesus” is their motto. They believe they can do all things through Christ who gives them strength. Daniel Chapel is more than just a church. It is a family unified in faith.

They believe in a crucified and risen savior. They believe God loves all equally. They accept each other as the Body of Christ heirs to His Kingdom. Love defines them as God’s children.

Daniel Chapel is part of the African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church AMEZ. This is a historically African-American Christian denomination. It was officially formed in 1821 in New York City. The AME Zion Church adheres to Wesleyan-Arminian theology.

The AME Zion Church emerged from the John Street Methodist Church of New York City. Black parishioners faced discrimination. Many left to form their own churches. The first AME Zion Church was built in 1800 and named Zion.

In 1820 six churches ordained James Varick as an elder. In 1821 he became the first General Superintendent. Then in 1822 Varick was ordained as the first bishop of the AME Zion Church. This marked the start of a newly independent denomination.

The AME Zion Church became known as the Freedom Church. It played a vital role in the abolitionist movement. Black churches helped build communities and develop leadership. They also played a powerful role in the civil rights movement.
