Journey back to 1979 with me, to the heart of Denpasar. Dangin Puri Kelod wasn’t always the vibrant village you see today. It was once a part of the larger Dangin Puri village. The elders, wise in their ways, named Dangin Puri. “Dangin” meaning east and “Puri” meaning royal palace. This signified its location east of the Denpasar royal palace. As Denpasar thrived, so did Dangin Puri, growing too large to manage as one entity. The decision was made to divide it. Four smaller villages were born: Dangin Puri Kaja, Dangin Puri Kauh, Dangin Puri Kangin, and, of course, our very own Dangin Puri Kelod. The official birthdate of Dangin Puri Kelod is etched in time: December 1, 1979, marked by the decree of the Badung regent. The village continued as a “preparatory village” until June 1, 1982. It was then that the governor of Bali declared it a definitive village. Dangin Puri Kelod comprises five distinct banjars, or traditional hamlets. These are Banjar Yangbatu Kauh, Banjar Yangbatu Kangin, Banjar Taman Yangbatu, Banjar Jayagiri, and Banjar Mandala Sari. Each banjar pulses with its own unique character, contributing to the rich tapestry of Dangin Puri Kelod. As of 2016, over 10,000 souls call Dangin Puri Kelod home. A mix of men and women contribute to the vibrant life here.
