Founded in 1924 Dallas Theological Seminary stands before you a testament to faith and scholarship. This impressive institution wasn’t built overnight. It started as the Evangelical Theological College with just thirteen students. Brothers Rollin and Lewis Sperry Chafer along with William Henry Griffith Thomas had a vision. They wanted a school focused on expository Bible preaching. This simple yet profound goal laid the foundation for DTS’s enduring legacy.

Early DTS championed the four-year Master of Theology degree a groundbreaking move at the time. The campus you see today was acquired in 1926. The Doctor of Theology program began a year later. The seminary played a significant role in the fundamentalist movement. It trained countless students who went on to establish Bible colleges and churches across the Southern United States.

DTS has also been incredibly influential in spreading dispensationalism. This theological system interprets the Bible with a premillennial perspective. Lewis Sperry Chafer’s eight-volume Systematic Theology published in 1948 is still a cornerstone of some courses. This work shaped theological discourse for generations of students.

The seminary’s impact extends far beyond its walls. As of 2014 it boasted over 15000 alumni serving in 97 countries. Three notable alumni Chuck Swindoll David Jeremiah and Andy Stanley were named among the top ten most influential preachers by Protestant pastors in a 2009 LifeWay Research study. Their ministries have touched millions worldwide.

The Bibliotheca Sacra DTS’s quarterly publication started in 1934 is another testament to the seminary’s scholarly contributions. It has published groundbreaking theological articles for almost a century. The journal continues to provide a platform for important research.

DTS has grown significantly since its humble beginnings. It now has campuses in Dallas Houston and Washington DC. It also has extension sites in numerous locations both domestically and internationally. This demonstrates the global reach of its influence. The seminary’s commitment to theological education remains steadfast. It continues to shape future generations of Christian leaders. Its enduring legacy is a testament to the powerful impact of faith-based learning.
