Delving into the history of D3 Teknik Otomotif ISTN is like uncovering a hidden chapter in Indonesia’s technological evolution. D3 Teknik Otomotif ISTN stands as a testament to the nation’s commitment to progress. It is a vital part of the Institut Sains dan Teknologi Nasional.

Established on December 5 1950, the Institut Sains dan Teknologi Nasional ISTN emerged as a beacon of hope. It aimed to elevate the skills of Indonesian technicians. This was to replace Dutch engineers after Indonesia’s independence. The institute began as Akademi Teknik Nasional ATN. It offered programs in civil, mechanical, and electrical engineering. Graduates earned the title Bachelor of Engineering BE.

Early on, ISTN was supported by experienced engineers from various agencies. Some became teachers. Others helped manage and develop the institution. ATN initially resided on Jalan Cikini Raya. It soon gained recognition for its high-quality education. The location provided opportunities for employees to study in the evenings. Many alumni achieved success in both government and private sectors.

To meet the growing demand for engineering graduates, ATN expanded its programs. In 1965, it began offering Bachelor’s degrees. It became Akademi Teknik Nasional Sekolah Tinggi Teknik Nasional ATN STTN. The curriculum evolved. A Bachelor’s degree required six years of study. ATN STTN continuously improved its services. In 1980, it officially became Sekolah Tinggi Teknik Nasional STTN. The government recognized its Bachelor’s programs.

Student numbers increased significantly, exceeding 5000. The Cikini campus became too small. In 1983, the school gradually moved to a new campus. The new campus was located on Jl. Moh. Kahfi II, Srengseng Sawah, Jagakarsa, South Jakarta. The 12-hectare site included classrooms, administration buildings, a library, and laboratories.

As STTN developed, new departments and faculties were added. In 1985, STTN became Institut Sains dan Teknologi Nasional ISTN. This transformation was formalized by the Minister of Education and Culture. New departments were introduced. ISTN now has three faculties. These faculties include undergraduate programs, diploma programs and master’s programs. The Faculty of Civil Engineering and Planning offers programs in Civil Engineering and Architecture. The Faculty of Industrial Technology includes Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Industrial Engineering. The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences offers programs in Mathematics, Physics and Pharmacy. Diploma programs include Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, Electronics Engineering and Electrical Engineering. Master’s programs are available in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Industrial Engineering.

ISTN’s motto is “WEDHA WIYATA WIRA SAKTI”. This translates to “A university that produces noble and resilient individuals.” ISTN’s organizational culture is known as E-ISTN. E-ISTN embodies values. These include excellence, integrity, service, trust and networking.

The five stacked rings in ISTN’s emblem symbolize Pancasila, the state ideology. A firm triangular peak represents management. Straight lines and curves depict human resources full of love and peace. Metal shapes signify science and technology. The overall emblem resembles a tree. This represents unity and harmony with the environment. A red ball symbolizes the spirit to pursue high ideals. It embodies a future full of development.

D3 Teknik Otomotif, a part of ISTN, reflects these values. It prepares students for careers in the automotive industry. The program ensures graduates are well-prepared. They contribute to Indonesia’s technological advancement. As you stand here, consider the countless students who have passed through these halls.
