Did the walls of the Cumbre Mundial de los Milagros ever whisper tales of extraordinary events? Right here, at Avenida Rivadavia 3775 in Buenos Aires, stands a place touched by the inexplicable. The Cumbre Mundial de los Milagros isn’t just a religious center. It’s a place where, according to some, the veil between the ordinary and the extraordinary has thinned. Between 1992 and 1996, three unexplained events occurred at the nearby St. Mary’s Parish. These events, involving consecrated Hosts, became known as the Buenos Aires Eucharistic Miracles. The first incident happened in 1992. Discarded Host fragments seemingly transformed, taking on a reddish hue. Later, blood-like drops appeared on the patens used during Mass. In 1994, another blood-like drop was observed on a container holding consecrated Hosts. The third event, in 1996, involved a Host found in a candle holder. This Host, placed in water, developed what appeared to be blood stains that grew larger over time. This last miracle at St. Mary’s became the focus of a scientific investigation. Then-Archbishop Jorge Bergoglio, who later became Pope Francis, had the Host photographed. The Host remained in water for three years without decomposing. In 1999, a team of scientists, led by Ricardo Castañón Gómez, began their analysis. They discovered human DNA fragments, skin, and remarkably, living white blood cells. Subsequent studies revealed the presence of heart tissue, muscle cells, and more intact white blood cells. One pathologist, Dr. Frederic Zugibe, identified the sample as inflamed heart muscle, as if the heart had been under severe stress. While these events occurred at St. Mary’s Parish, the story resonates within the Cumbre Mundial de los Milagros. It serves as a reminder of the mysteries that lie beyond our understanding, adding another layer of intrigue to this place of worship in Buenos Aires. While the Catholic Church hasn’t officially recognized these events as miracles, the story continues to fascinate. It raises questions about faith, science, and the possibility of the divine touching the everyday world, right here in the heart of Buenos Aires.
