The Hemicycle’s construction began in 1906. It marked the centennial of Juárez’s birth. Porfirio Díaz assigned the engineers. Italian artist Alessandro Lazzerini sculpted the statues. The monument was dedicated on September 18, 1910.

The Benito Juárez Hemicycle showcases Neoclassical style. It has a semicircular design and strong Greek influences. Twelve Doric columns support the structure. These columns hold up an entablature and frieze. Golden spikes accentuate both sides.

At the center, Benito Juárez sits in a sculpture. Allegories surround him. One represents the homeland. It crowns Juárez with laurels. The other represents the law. Festoons adorn the basement. Another sculpture centers on a republican eagle. The eagle has open wings. Neoaztec frets lie below. Two lions recline there.

The central pillar bears a medallion. Laurel surrounds it. It reads: “For the Meritorious Benito Juárez, the Homeland.” This inscription captures the nation’s gratitude.

Benito Juárez defended Mexico. He protected it from internal wars and foreign invasions. The Cuerpo de Juárez Sculpture serves as a reminder. It honors his commitment.
