Gazing towards Budaörs from Törökugrató, the Csiki-hegyek rise in a gentle embrace. The Csiki-hegyek, the southernmost range of the Buda Hills, beckon you to uncover their secrets. These hills, administratively part of Budaörs, hold a unique charm. They offer a tranquil escape from the city’s hustle, while whispering tales of geological ages past. The Csiki-hegyek are more than just hills. They are a geological tapestry woven with Triassic diplopora dolomite and draped with Bryozoa-rich marl and loess. This range consists of a main ridge and a secondary ridge. The main ridge, running southwest to northeast, features prominent peaks like Huszonnégyökrös-hegy, Kis-Csík-hegy, Csík-hegy, and Ló-hegy. Parallel to the main ridge, the secondary, fragmented ridge lies to the northwest. Its largest peak, Kecske-hegy, stands proudly separated from the main ridge by the picturesque Kies-völgy (Lovely Valley). The Csiki-hegyek are cloaked in planted pine and oak forests, a stark contrast to their once-bare slopes. Dolomite outcroppings still peek through the foliage, reminders of the powerful forces that shaped this landscape. The Sorrentó-gerinc, overlooking Kies-völgy, is a highlight of the Csiki-hegyek. This ridge, with its alternating pines and clearings, boasts a pleasant microclimate. The western views from the Sorrentó ridge are breathtaking, offering a sweeping vista of the surrounding landscape. A yellow-marked tourist trail meanders through this area. It touches upon Sorrentó, Kies-völgy, Szállás-hegy, Ló-hegy, and Csík-hegy, nearly reaching the summit of Huszonnégyökrös-hegy. Detouring from this path reveals hidden gems. A flight memorial marks a site rich in history, near the former Farkashegyi airport and its old hangar. A sailing memorial, accessible via a red-marked trail, rests near the summit of Farkas-hegy. The summit of Szekrénes-hegy, the highest peak in the Csiki-hegyek, rewards hikers with a panoramic view of the Budaörs and Budakeszi basins. The Csiki-hegyek offer more than stunning scenery. They offer a journey through time, a connection to the earth’s ancient history, and a breath of fresh air within reach of the city.
