Ready to uncover a fascinating story? Croxley Danes School stands before us ready to share its unique history. Croxley Danes School is a co-educational secondary school. It also has a sixth form. The school is currently located in Rickmansworth Hertfordshire.
Croxley Danes School opened in September 2017. It started in temporary accommodation at St Clement Danes School. The old maths block was updated. This provided separate facilities for the new students. 120 Year 7 pupils were admitted in the first year.
In September 2018, 180 more students joined Croxley Danes School. The school moved to temporary accommodation in Tolpits Lane. This was the former site of the Reach Free School. This move avoided building temporary structures on the permanent site.
The permanent site is on Baldwins Lane in Croxley Green. The transfer to this site was planned for Easter 2020. Delays pushed the move to the summer holidays. Pupils finally attended the new site in September 2020. The school site covers 33 acres. It is about half a mile from Croxley tube station.
Croxley Danes School is an all-ability academy school. Most students are admitted based on home proximity. Priority is given to staff children and siblings. Up to 10% of students are admitted for musical aptitude.
The school has a motto. It is Loyauté M’Oblige meaning Loyalty has its Obligations.
Croxley Danes School uses a house system. The house names connect to the school site’s history and the local area. Cassiobridge and Snells were former houses on the site. Jaggerts and Mallets are former field names. Gonville is named after Gonville and Caius College Cambridge which previously owned the land. Dickinson house is named after John Dickinson. He built a paper mill in Croxley between 1828 and 1830. The houses are Cassiobridge Dickinson Gonville Jaggerts Mallets and Snells. They have the colours blue red yellow/gold white/silver green and orange respectively.
Croxley Danes aims to promote global interconnection. It wants students to understand human history. It also seeks to ignite a lifelong passion for history.
The history curriculum covers key concepts. These include cause and consequence change and continuity and similarity and difference. Significance evidence and interpretations are also studied.
In Key Stage 3, History follows a chronological approach. It starts with 1066 and the Medieval period. It ends in Year 9 with 20th-century dictators. Common themes are revisited. These include power and control and relationships between rulers and people. People adapting to change the role of religion and empire and expansion are also studied. British history is a focus. Key events in world history are also studied. Examples are slavery and Civil Rights in America.
At GCSE, students study AQA History. Topics include Conflict and Tension in Asia 1950-1975 and Elizabethan England c1568-1603. Migration empires and the people c790 to the present day and Germany 1890-1945 Democracy and Dictatorship are also studied.
