Tucked away in the heart of Dallas, Crestview Baptist Church has witnessed the city’s transformation over the decades. Crestview Baptist Church first opened its doors as a mission in 1962. The initial congregation gathered in a repurposed auto repair shop. Imagine the contrast: where once engines roared, now hymns filled the air. The building was modestly furnished with donated pews, a pulpit, a piano, and hymnals. Forty-three souls attended that first service, led by Reverend Wayne Sorrells. His sermon, based on Matthew 16:18, spoke of building a church upon a rock, a fitting metaphor for the church’s future. The warmth from the old wood heater fostered a sense of fellowship that would define Crestview Baptist Church for years to come. Soon, under Reverend Sorrells’ leadership, Crestview Baptist Church set its sights on a permanent home. The old Osborne Dairy Farm, conveniently located near the mission, became the chosen site. Through prayer, planning, and community effort, the funds were raised to purchase the land and construct the first building, which now serves as the fellowship hall. This building was completed in July 1964. Crestview Baptist Church officially became a Baptist church on September 25, 1965. The church boasted eighty-seven charter members. Years later, in 2009, Reverend Dan Page took the helm. Under his guidance, Crestview Baptist Church experienced significant growth. The need for additional space led to the launch of a Church Growth Campaign in May 2015. The goal of phase one was to construct a new educational wing. This expansion culminated in the opening of a 6,500-square-foot building in July 2018. This addition included a welcome center, classrooms, a renovated children’s ministry area, and a new front entrance. From a humble auto repair shop to a thriving community hub, Crestview Baptist Church stands as a testament to faith, perseverance, and the power of community.
