Hidden within the rugged landscape of Mallorca lies Cova des Pinar. This isn’t just any cave. It’s a hidden gem a world of stalagmites and stalactites waiting to be explored.

Cova des Pinar sits atop Puig Rodo. It connects the Vileta area to the Coves del Pilar and the San Pancracio mines. Imagine yourself standing at its entrance. The air is cool a welcome contrast to the warm Mallorcan sun.

Stepping inside you are immediately surrounded by formations. Every surface is covered in them. It’s a breathtaking display of nature’s artistry. The cave floor is slippery in places. Be careful as you walk. The path is strewn with stones of various sizes. Large stalagmites rise from the ground to your right.

You’ll pass a couple of gours small pools of water. A small entrance leads to a side chamber. It’s not particularly interesting but it’s part of Cova des Pinar’s full story. The deepest point of this area is eight meters below.

Continuing northeast you’ll cross a small gour then a larger one. To the left formations pile up. They fill much of the central area of the cave. You can bypass this by taking a narrow passage about half a dozen meters long. It runs under the formations. Either way you reach a small pothole.

The final part of the journey requires some crawling. The ceiling is low here. You’ll reach the deepest part of Cova des Pinar at 14 meters below ground. You return the same way. From the larger gour you can explore the central area where many formations are found. There are impressive stalagmites columns and more gours.

Cova des Pinar is of both speleological and archaeological interest. Its location is significant. There are many other caves in the area making it a fascinating place to explore and a perfect day trip destination.
