Overlooking the mesmerizing Mallorcan coast, Cova des Mirador whispers tales of refuge and resilience. Cova des Mirador, nestled within the Puig Gros de Bendinat in Calvià’s Serra de na Burguesa, offers a captivating glimpse into Mallorca’s past. Reaching this intriguing cave involves a scenic journey. From Palma, the Ma-20 motorway towards Andratx leads to the Gènova exit (Ma-1045). At Gènova’s entrance, the first right turn unveils signs guiding you to Mirador Ca na Burguesa and its convenient parking. The adventurous can embark on a hike through Serra de na Burguesa, following camí 376 towards Coll des Pastors. From there, the left track leads to Puig Gros de Bendinat. Circling the peak between Coma de sa Font de s’Ermita and Serra de ses Pasteretes (or Barranc de s’Arc), a slight detour from the curve reveals the cave’s entrance, marked by a nearby mirador. The cave’s rugged terrain, formed by conglomerate rock, displays evidence of excavation, filling, and subsequent collapses. Multiple access points invite exploration – two descents down the cliff face and a third resembling a sinkhole. Within Cova des Mirador, remnants of the past come to life. Stone walls, traces of ancient fires, and an exterior dry-stone hut (measuring 3 x 3.5 meters) speak of its use as a shelter, echoing similar practices in other Serra caves. The cave’s spacious interior (20 x 15 meters) with a 4-meter ceiling, offers ample space. Cova des Mirador, true to its name (“Cave of the Viewpoint”), offers stunning vistas of the Mallorcan coastline. Its strategic location provides welcome shade during the summer months, making it a haven for both the curious and those seeking respite from the sun.
