Cova de sa Bella Mirada

Slipping through a fissure in time, we find ourselves at the Cova de sa Bella Mirada. This cave, tucked away in the Serra de Son Camps, holds a secret beauty. Its name, Cova de sa Bella Mirada, translates to “Cave of the Beautiful View”. But the beauty isn’t just the view from outside. It’s within the cave itself. The entrance, a dramatic collapse, reveals a single chamber. This chamber stretches 18 meters, a small space holding a world of wonder. Imagine the forces that shaped this cave, located between Calvià and Palma. The Cova de sa Bella Mirada lies on the boundary of these two municipalities, a hidden gem in the landscape. To reach this hidden marvel, you can approach from the Ma-1016. Follow a forest track that winds around Puig Gros. Look for a ‘safareig’, a water reservoir, which marks the spot. From there, venture cross-country, and you’ll stumble upon the collapsed entrance of the Cova de sa Bella Mirada. Inside, the cave splits into two distinct sections. To the northeast, a descent leads to a point three meters below the entrance. This area, filled with stones, offers a glimpse into the cave’s geological history. The southwestern part is a stark contrast. Here, nature’s artistry takes center stage. Concretions, flowstones, and a filled column create a breathtaking scene. Small pools, known as gourgs, add to the magical atmosphere. This area ascends slightly, rising one meter above the cave floor. The Cova de sa Bella Mirada is a testament to the power of nature and the beauty hidden within the earth.
