A hidden gem awaits. That’s the Cova Barquereta.

Welcome to the Cova Barquereta a fascinating cave nestled in the Serra de na Burguesa mountains near Genova. This isn’t just any cave. It’s a portal to the past. A place where history whispers through the rocks.

The Cova Barquereta boasts two entrances. One is a narrow almost impenetrable crack. The other is significantly larger offering easier access. Inside a single chamber unfolds. It measures approximately 6.5 meters long. Its maximum width and height reach 2.18 and 1.72 meters respectively.

Look closely at the cave’s ceiling. You’ll notice traces of soot. These are remnants of ancient fires. Imagine the people who once sought shelter here. Their lives played out within these very walls.

The cave is also home to goats. Their droppings litter the floor. These animals use the cave for refuge. The Cova Barquereta serves as a natural shelter from the elements. It offers a safe haven for wildlife.

To reach the Cova Barquereta you can drive. From Palma take the Ma-20 highway towards Andratx. Exit at Genova Ma-1045. Turn right onto Carrer del Rector Vives. Follow signs for the Mirador Ca na Burguesa viewpoint. Park at the top. The trail is approximately 1070 meters from the parking area. Alternatively you can hike a longer route through the mountains.

The Cova Barquereta is more than just a cave. It’s a testament to the enduring power of nature. It’s a piece of Mallorca’s history etched in stone. This seemingly small space tells a big story. A story that continues to unfold.
