What comes to mind when you hear the name Coulsdon East Ward? A bustling hub of London life? Well, until recently, Coulsdon East Ward was a key part of the London Borough of Croydon. This ward, part of Chris Philp MP’s Croydon South constituency, was home to a vibrant community. The 2011 census recorded a population of 12,244 residents in Coulsdon East Ward, illustrating its significance. Coulsdon East Ward had a rich history of political engagement. Every four years, the residents diligently elected three councillors to represent them at Croydon Council. In the closely watched 2006 Croydon Council election, the Conservative candidates, Terry Lenton, Brian Udell, and Chris Wright, secured a decisive victory. Interestingly, the Labour Party chose not to field any candidates in Coulsdon East Ward that year. This election witnessed an impressive turnout of 57.2%, the highest among all the London Borough elections in 2006, reflecting the residents’ active participation in local politics. However, in a significant restructuring of Croydon’s electoral map in 2018, Coulsdon East Ward was dissolved.
