Hidden beneath railway arches in Elephant and Castle lies Corsica Studios. A haven for underground music and art. This isn’t just any club. It’s a story etched in sound and light. Founded in 2002 by Amanda Moss and Adrian Jones Corsica Studios started as a nomadic party. They held events in various temporary spaces. One of their first locations was on Corsica Street Highbury. This gave the project and the current venue its name.
The move to its current home in Elephant and Castle marked a turning point. Initially known as Corsica Arts Club it evolved. In 2007 a Funktion-One sound system was installed. This was a significant upgrade for a smaller London club at the time. The venue shifted focus toward DJ and club nights. It quickly became a go-to destination for music lovers.
Corsica Studios is more than just a venue. It’s a cultural hub. Boiler Room used it as an early base. The Hyperdub label held countless events there. Their tenth anniversary celebration in 2014 was held here. The Ø series from 2017 to 2020 featured label artists. Björk and Laurel Halo even performed alongside installations and art pieces.
The club’s reputation is well deserved. It won DJ Mag’s Best of British Best Small Club of the Year in 2009 and 2019. It also featured in DJ Mag’s Top 100 Clubs between 2010 and 2015 and again in 2022. Its intimate atmosphere and high-quality sound system are legendary. Long-running club nights such as Trouble Vision Rupture and Jaded have cemented its status. International and UK artists like Sunn O))) and Four Tet have graced its stage. The experimental gig promoter Baba Yaga’s Hut also calls Corsica Studios home.
