A regal facade. That’s the first impression of Cornwall Terrace. This magnificent Grade I listed building stands proudly overlooking Regent’s Park. Its Greco-Roman design whispers tales of a bygone era.

Cornwall Terrace is more than just pretty houses. It’s a piece of London’s history. Built between 1821 and 1823 it’s one of Regent’s Park’s earliest structures. The Prince Regent later King George IV envisioned grand housing here. Architects Decimus Burton and Sir John Nash brought that vision to life. James Burton the property developer made it a reality.

Imagine Cornwall Terrace during the Second World War. Bomb damage scarred its beauty. Years later in 1975 a wave of hippies occupied the entire terrace. They set up a health food store. Eventually the squatters left. The terrace then became the headquarters of British Land a large property development company.

In the 2000s Oakmayne Developers transformed the terrace. They turned 18 houses into eight luxury residences. Each home bears the name of a notable past resident. One mansion boasts an astonishing 21500 square feet. It includes seven bedrooms nine bathrooms and eleven reception rooms. The refurbishment wasn’t without controversy. A plan to merge three houses into a super-mansion was rejected. This super-mansion would have included seventeen bedrooms a swimming pool and a cinema.

Cornwall Terrace holds a fascinating past. From humble beginnings to luxury homes it continues to captivate. The terrace’s history is interwoven with the lives of its residents. From New Zealand High Commissioners to telecommunications entrepreneurs. The stories of Cornwall Terrace are numerous and rich. It’s a place of beauty intrigue and untold stories.
