“Imagine a skyscraper a white tower piercing the Beirut skyline” The Corm House stands before you a testament to ambition and artistry. Built in 1929 it was once the tallest structure in Lebanon. This wasn’t just any building. This was the headquarters of Charles Corm and Co a business empire that was the first multinational in the Middle East. Charles Corm a poet entrepreneur and visionary designed it himself. He envisioned a building that reflected his passion for both commerce and culture.

The Corm House wasn’t merely a place of business. It was a reflection of Charles Corm’s multifaceted life. He began his career in New York meeting Henry Ford and securing the Ford Motor Company concession for the entire Middle East. This led to his enormous success. His company built roads railways and bridges across the region. He brought modern infrastructure to previously undeveloped lands.

But Corm wasn’t only a businessman. He was a gifted poet and writer. In the late 1930s he left the business world behind. He transformed his impressive headquarters into a family home. The building became a gathering place for Lebanon’s intellectual and artistic elite. He hosted the Lebanese Friendships a program of lectures and discussions. His home hosted writers artists and thinkers. His vast library a treasure trove of literature from around the world became legendary.

The Corm House boasts 14000 square meters of gardens. These are some of the largest private gardens in Beirut. They’re filled with exotic trees rare plants artistic and archaeological relics reflecting Corm’s love for nature. The gardens also housed a studio for Youssef Hoayek a renowned sculptor. Even today a towering cypress tree stands as a silent witness to history. It miraculously survived the Lebanese Civil War.

The war tragically marked a turning point. The Corm House suffered significant damage. It was occupied by various militias and endured heavy shelling. This era of conflict brought an end to the house’s golden age. It fell silent.

But like a phoenix from the ashes the Corm House has been restored. Thanks to the Charles Corm Foundation and Saint Joseph University. It is now open to the public once again. It stands as a symbol of resilience a cultural lighthouse in the heart of Beirut. It is a place where history and culture intertwine a place to celebrate the life and legacy of Charles Corm. You can almost feel the echoes of his words his dreams still resonating within these walls. This is more than just a building. It’s a story a legacy a beacon of hope.
