Madonna attracted more than 1.6 million attendees in May 2024.
Copacabana has a rich history of New Year’s Eve celebrations. Cults of African origin gathered in white for ritual celebrations in the 1950s. The first fireworks display was in 1976 sponsored by a waterfront hotel.
