“Acrobats in bronze!” That’s what some say when they first see the Confluence Sculpture. This artwork stands near Post and Mason Streets. It’s part of the Academy of Art University. The Confluence Sculpture and “Skyward” were both created by Peter Schifrin in 2004.

Peter Schifrin is quite accomplished. He earned his BA in Sculpture from San Jose State University. He also holds an MFA in sculpture from Boston University. Today, he directs the Sculpture program at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco.

The Confluence Sculpture marked a special occasion. It was placed here during the Academy of Art’s 75th Anniversary. This location has an interesting past. The Academy of Art campus was once the First Congregational Church of San Francisco.

The Confluence Sculpture adds a dynamic touch to the area. Its bronze figures offer a striking contrast. They stand out against the classic architecture nearby. People often stop to admire them up close. The sculptures capture the eye and spark conversation. They bring art into the daily lives of students and passersby.

Another sculpture named Confluence exists in Palo Alto. It features bronze, water and concrete. Michael Szabo created that piece in 2015. This Confluence is different. It’s located at the California Ave Caltrain Plaza. This Confluence welcomes people to Palo Alto’s “second downtown”. Gentle curves guide water down its surface. This creates a soothing water feature.

Here at the Academy of Art, the Confluence Sculpture represents something else. It embodies the flow of ideas and creativity. Schifrin’s work adds to San Francisco’s artistic landscape. It provides a visual treat for all who encounter it.

Take a moment to appreciate this sculpture. Notice its lines and forms. Consider the artist’s vision. The Confluence Sculpture is more than just a decoration. It’s a symbol of artistic expression and the Academy’s commitment to the arts.
