The Comunidade Evangélica Aliança Renovada isn’t just a church. It’s a living breathing organism. Its roots stretch back to a woman’s quiet sorrow. In 1996 a chance encounter on a hillside sparked a chain reaction. Pastor Celso Santos prayed for her. God’s touch initiated a ripple of faith. Soon others joined. Their meetings took place under open skies stars above. They used paint cans as seats.
From this humble beginning the Comunidade Evangélica Aliança Renovada blossomed. It grew rapidly. People from all walks of life sought its embrace. Pastor Celso despite his initial reluctance became a beacon of hope. A prophecy foretold a great ministry under his guidance. He embraced the challenge trusting in God’s plan.
The first baptism occurred on March 27 1997. Seventy members shared the first Holy Communion. A “Circle of Prayer Pillars of Fire” was formed. The “Young Alliance with Christ” group emerged. The growth continued. Soon the original meeting place became too small.
In 1998 the Comunidade Evangélica Aliança Renovada moved to a larger space accommodating 400 people. Even then the congregation overflowed. New ministries sprouted including “Operation Rescue” and a youth dance group. The first Women’s Congress took place.
In 2001 another relocation was ordained. This time to the old Cine Horizonte a significant leap of faith. The pastor’s initial hesitation mirrored Jonah’s. Yet God’s command was clear and powerful. The challenge was immense. The rent was high. The building was enormous holding 1620 seats. Trusting in God’s provision they embraced this significant challenge.
On January 1 2001 the lease was signed. On January 15 2001 the move was finalized. The “Alliance with Christ” Youth Congress was held that same day. Some predicted the end. Only 60 members remained. Yet God’s faithfulness was evident. The church flourished.
