Step inside and imagine the calmness spreading outward from the heart of this building, a quiet oasis in the hustle and bustle of Minneapolis. This is Common Ground Meditation Center, a place where the teachings of the Buddha find a home in the contemporary world. It all started in 1993, when Mark Nunberg and Wynn Fricke, two souls seeking to spread mindfulness, opened the center in a small storefront. Soon, their shared dream filled the space, and a thriving community emerged, seeking support in the practice of mindfulness. It was the beginning of a journey of deepening wisdom and compassion, a journey that has continued ever since. In these humble beginnings, daily open meditation sessions became a rhythm of the space, joined by yoga classes and practice groups that illuminated the path to inner peace. The community grew, and in 2006, Common Ground found a new home in a former diner, a few blocks away. The transformation was a testament to the spirit of this place, a testament to the strength and commitment of the community who worked tirelessly for two years, transforming this space into a true haven. Today, Common Ground Meditation Center stands as a symbol of hope and a testament to the transformative power of mindfulness. It is a reminder that peace and wisdom are not confined to one tradition or one cultural setting. They belong to everyone who seeks them.
