Have you ever seen a sculpture that resembles a giant engagement ring? This is the Commemorative Ground Ring, a stainless steel sculpture by Sheila Klein. It was originally part of the “Process Show” during Sculpture Chicago 1989. It’s a symbol of the artist’s love for Chicago architecture, incorporating elements like a skyscraper, the famous three-part Chicago window, and the Getty Mausoleum by Louis Sullivan. After the exhibit, the sculpture was purchased by the Miro Fund and placed near the Chicago Historical Society, now known as the Chicago History Museum. Due to different landscaping projects over the years, it was moved several times before ending up in its current location in 2005. You can find the Commemorative Ground Ring in A. Montgomery Ward Park, South of West Erie and West of North Kingsbury Street. It’s a testament to Chicago’s architectural legacy and a must-see for any art lover visiting the city.
