Nestled in the heart of Nørrebro, Collegium Juris whispers tales of vibrant student life. It’s more than just bricks and mortar. It is a crucible of cultures, a melting pot of aspiring legal minds, and a stage for unforgettable experiences. Collegium Juris first opened its doors in September 2012. The former dean of the Faculty of Law, Vagn Greve, had envisioned this vibrant hub back in 2003. He spearheaded the fundraising efforts that brought Collegium Juris to life. The building itself is a fascinating blend of old and new. While the exterior retains its antique charm, the interior boasts a sleek, modern design. Bamboo accents, colorful furniture, and glass doors with vibrant writing create a dynamic atmosphere. This modern aesthetic contrasts beautifully with the building’s historic façade, a testament to its past as nurses’ housing for Blegdamshospital, built in 1917 and expanded in 1938. Collegium Juris is home to around 53 students. While a majority are law students, a minimum of 10 residents must be pursuing other fields of study. This blend creates a unique academic environment. Law students benefit from peer feedback and lively discussions, while non-law students gain access to readily available legal advice. The international spirit thrives within these walls. A significant 40% of the residents are international students, hailing from all corners of the globe. This diversity fosters cross-cultural understanding and enriches the Collegium Juris experience. Each semester brings a wave of farewells and welcomes, as new residents arrive and others depart. This constant flux keeps the atmosphere dynamic. Traditions, though still young, are already taking root. Gatherings with coffee and cake, or dinners and drinks, mark the arrivals and departures, creating a sense of community. Imagine an Australian serenading the halls with his guitar, a Japanese student preparing homemade sushi, an Ethiopian sharing coffee from his homeland, and a Dane cooking a traditional “stegt flæsk med persillesovs”. This blend of cultures creates a vibrant tapestry that makes Collegium Juris truly special. The social life at Collegium Juris is as vibrant as its cultural mix. The basement houses not only a study library but also spacious common rooms. These spaces frequently host games of beer pong and beer football. Themed Friday Bars, hosted by different floors on a rotating basis, are a highlight of the social calendar. Sunday dinners, prepared communally, foster a sense of family. Movie nights often follow, with residents gathered in the kitchen, enjoying cookies and popcorn. Beyond the everyday camaraderie, Collegium Juris hosts special events. The annual Tour de Cuisine, inspired by the Tour de Chambre, sees each floor showcasing their culinary talents and creativity. The Annual Party is a chance to celebrate the collegium’s growth and achievements. Participation in the DHL relay and birthday celebrations further strengthen the bonds within the community. Collegium Juris is a place where ambition meets camaraderie, and hard work is balanced with lively social interaction.
