Beneath the Tramuntana sun lies a mountain pass. This is Coll des Vent. It links Palma with the southern Serra de Tramuntana.

Welcome to Coll des Vent. This isn’t just a road. It’s a journey through Mallorca’s heart. It is steeped in history and offers stunning views.

The road to Coll des Vent unveils the island’s diverse beauty. The route passes through the Jaume II military base. It nestles between the Puig d’en Bou and Pujol des Gats hills. The road is narrow but well-maintained. Traffic is usually light. This makes for a pleasant drive.

Cycling enthusiasts find joy here. They relish the challenge of the climb. The southeast ascent from Palma spans 8 kilometers. It boasts an average gradient of 4.6%.

As you ascend, notice the landscape. Pine forests line the road. They offer shade and tranquility. About 5 kilometers from the summit, the road undulates. The initial kilometer presents a 6% gradient. The following 2 kilometers average around 7%. A maximum stretch reaches 8%. This happens nearly 3 kilometers before reaching the top.

Before Coll de sa Creu, experience ten hairpin turns. Most of these are packed into the final kilometer. The climb offers views during the ascent. Despite its beauty, no signs mark either pass.

The stretch between Coll de sa Creu and Coll des Vent is just one kilometer. It begins at 4%. It ends between 6-7%. Finally, you will reach the top. The landmark is an unmarked sign at 380 meters.

The northwest side stretches 9.5 kilometers. It averages 2.8%. The climb starts at the junction of Ma-1016 and Ma-1043. The road narrows, similar to the opposite side.

Many consider this side more beautiful than the other. The average gradient is between 4-6%. A final hairpin turn marks the summit. It stands at 276 meters.

Interestingly, direction signs prioritize Coll de sa Creu. It is lower and slightly farther. The road itself is named Carretera del Coll de la Creu. This well-maintained road has a 50 km/h speed limit.

As you approach Coll des Vent from Calvià, you will pass the Coll des Tords. Three hundred meters before its peak, turn right. This heads towards Coll de sa Creu. The ascent winds through a lightly wooded slope.

Along the route military presence is noted. You may see shooting ranges and restricted zones. These areas add an unusual aspect to the scenic drive.

Now, as you stand at Coll des Vent, consider its dual identity. It is a gateway. It is a silent witness to Mallorca’s evolving story. The views from here offer a unique perspective. The island’s beauty unfolds. The blend of nature and history leaves a mark. Let the spirit of Coll des Vent inspire you.
