In 1979, a seed of education was planted in Los Reyes La Paz. This seed, nurtured by the community’s need for a local private school, blossomed into what we now know as Colegio Pedagogico La Paz. The journey of Colegio Pedagogico La Paz began humbly as a kindergarten, named Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz. By 1980, it expanded to include a technical commercial school, also bearing the name Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz. This technical school operated until 1994. In 1987, the institution further broadened its horizons by establishing a state-run high school, known as Bachillerato Tecnológico No. 109. A pivotal moment in the school’s history arrived in 1990. Jaime Almazán, the Secretary of Education, encouraged the director to seek federal incorporation. Graduates of the state-run high school faced challenges entering higher education institutions like UNAM and IPN. This was due to the state’s outdated curriculum. The request for federal incorporation with DGETI (now UEMSTIS) was made in 1991 and granted in 1992. Under this new structure, Colegio Pedagogico La Paz continued to offer programs like Bilingual Executive Secretary, Administrative Informatics, Accounting Technician, Programmer Technician, and Fiscal Accounting Computing. Today, Administrative Informatics and Fiscal Accounting Computing remain active programs. The year 1994 marked the closure of the Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz commercial school. The state-run Bachillerato No. 109 also ceased operations in 1995. That same year, the high school level was registered with the Department of Degrees and Titles, and the Technical and Commercial Secondary School was created. This period also saw a significant name change. The institution was asked to propose a new name, accompanied by an emblematic figure. The chosen figure was the Virgin Queen of Mercy and Peace, a gift from Poland, presented by Father Rafael Hollo, representative of the Vicariate of Ixtapaluca. Colegio Pedagogico La Paz received its official flag in a ceremony in 2000. This was a notable honor, as only ten schools nationwide were selected for this recognition, two of which were in the state. The ceremony included distinguished guests. Colegio Pedagogico La Paz continues to stand as a testament to its founders’ vision. It has evolved from a small kindergarten to a multifaceted institution offering diverse educational opportunities.
