Initially, only nine students attended the Colegio Alemán de Quito. The school closed in 1942 due to World War II. But it reopened in 1956. Since its beginning, the Colegio Alemán de Quito moved several times. Finally, it settled in Cumbayá Valley in 1998.
Today, the Colegio Alemán de Quito covers seven hectares. It features modern facilities and sports complexes. There are also large green areas. Around 1600 students attend, with 80% from Ecuadorian families. This makes it one of the largest private schools in the city. It is also one of the largest German schools abroad.
The Colegio Alemán de Quito belongs to a network of 140 German schools abroad. The German government supports these schools. This support comes through the Central Office for German Schools Abroad. The goal is to promote Ecuadorian-German friendship.
Students at the Colegio Alemán de Quito receive a trilingual education. They learn German, Spanish, and English. They earn both German and national certificates.
